We have been awarded the Magnet Schools of Distinction Award for 2026. National merit awards are presented to magnet schools for demonstrating a commitment to high academic standards, curriculum innovation, and strong parent and community involvement. To be considered for a merit award, member schools must submit an application that is scored by a panel of educators. Thank Mrs. Springs Pacelli - Magnet Lead Teacher!

Dowdell is a Florida Power-Library School. The Florida Power-Library Schools program is sponsored by the Florida Association of Supervisors of Media and the Florida Department of Education's Library Media Services in order to recognize outstanding school library programs in Florida. Quality library programs have been proven to improve student achievement! Thank you Mrs. Elizabeth Hawley - Library Media Specialist!                   

Our students are training these lovable canines for the elementary reading school program. The 5th graders at a local elementary school will use these dogs to entice 2nd graders to increase their reading proficiency.  Thank to Mrs. Pacelli for coordinating this program to take place @ Dowdell!

Students from 6th, 7th & 8th grade went to USF to compete in the Middle School Math League Competition on February 4th under the leadership of Ms. Spero. 

Congratulations to those students who earned an Honor Roll Quarter 2!

Honor rolls are determined based on a student’s academic and conduct quarter grades when the student 
is enrolled in a minimum of four district courses. 
The Principal’s Honor Roll is awarded to students who earn A’s in academics and conduct for all courses. 
The High Honor Roll is awarded to students who earn a B or higher in academics and conduct with a
minimum of three A’s in academics. 
The Honor Roll is awarded to students who earn B’s or higher in academics and conduct.

Our 7th grade AVID students ventured to the Tampa Museum of  Art.  Exploring the Tampa Museum of Art reminded us that learning doesn't only happen in the classroom. By studying culture, creativity, and different perspectives, AVID students practiced the communication and critical-thinking skills needed for future careers. Today's art experience helped prepare them for tomorrow's college and career opportunities! Thank you to Mr. Woods, our AVID coordinator!

We had  three students from Dowdell audition for the Hillsborough All-County Honor Band: A. Ford, Q. Hayward, and Z. Carridice-Brown.

Z. Carrdice-Brown  was named to the Middle School Honors Band II for playing the bass clarinet.

In Ms. Arias' 6th grade Science class, students became ATMOSPHERIC SCIENTISTS during a hands-on gallery walk. After learning what would happen if Earth had no atmosphere, students worked with their table groups to explore a big question: What if just ONE layer of the atmosphere was missing? Thank you Ms. Arias for making learning FUN!
