Dear Families,

I am so excited to announce that the first Magnet and School Choice application window for the 2026-2027 school year will be opening Monday, October 20 at 6 p.m. We have some of the very best Magnet and Choice programs in Hillsborough County Public Schools, and beginning Monday, your child has the opportunity to apply to attend one of them.

The process to apply for a Magnet or Choice school is very simple, but with all our choices, it can be a bit overwhelming. So, my team has put together this newsletter to better explain what a Magnet and Choice school is, the benefits of them, and to highlight a few of our amazing programs.

The application window doesn't close until Sunday, December 7 at 11:59 p.m., so you have plenty of time to find a school that appeals to your student and do some research. By the way, our schools LOVE talking about their programs, so you should absolutely contact the school if you want a tour or a little more information.

Whether your student is interested in advanced academics, like International Baccalaureate or Collegiate Academies, the Arts, STEM, medical programs, environmental science, or tourism and hospitality... They are sure to find a school that fits their needs.

Thank you for choosing Hillsborough County Public Schools for your child's educational journey.

Superintendent Van Ayres

All About The Magnet & School Choice Window

What is a Magnet School?

A Magnet School is a public school that offers specialized courses that draw students from across the district or even beyond. These schools often focus on specific areas such as the Arts, STEM, International Baccalaureate (IB), or technical and career programs.

What is the Magnet & Choice Window?

The Magnet and Choice Window is the period of time in which you can apply for one of our Magnet and Choice Schools. There are several windows during the school year however the first window is typically the most popular. The Magnet and Choice Window is not first-come first-served. A family that applies on the first day has as much chance of being selected via the lottery system as a family that applies on the last day.

It is important to note that a few of our high schools are merit-based, in which students will be selected based on their grades/academics or performances.

How do I get even more information about Magnet and Choice Schools?
